The project is implemented based on the Agreement between The International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), and Nong-Lam University Ho Chi Minh City (NLU), was signed on 12 April 2010 for implementing the ADB funded Regional Technical Assistance (RETA) Project for Vietnamese component’s activities. The aims are out-scaling the benefits of improved postharvest technologies and management options to a large number of farmers.
The activities funded under this agreement are part of the 2010 Work Plan developed for the Project in Vietnam, which is an outcome of the PIPA workshops conducted in Vietnam, the planning session conducted in November 2009, and intensive stakeholder consultations conducted by the NLU Coordination Team in the 5 regions <<*>>.
The Project is sub-divided into 5 Regional Projects for 5 post-harvest regions of Viet Nam. All 5 Regional Projects are coordinated by Nong-Lam University (NLU) through a 3-member Coordination Unit headed by Dr. Nguyen Le Hung, NLU Vice-Rector and Head of International Relations Office.
The organizational structure of the Project in Vietnam reflects the stakeholders’ viewpoint on solving post-harvest problems: very close coordination between applied research and extension is needed as problems and solutions are dynamic, there is no clear-cut line between these two activities. This is materialized through research institutes and universities, and extension centers in the Provinces.
